Collaboration between Nurse-Doctor and Interpersonal Communication Competence of Nurse

Abstract

|
Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the interpersonal communication competence of clinical nurse and to analyze the collaboration of nurse-doctor.
Methods: The date was collected from 248 nurses, working in six hospitals of Jeonnam. Data gathering was done by the instrument for interpersonal communication competence and collaboration of nurse-doctor; 24items of collaboration and 15 sub-concepts of interpersonal communication competence on 5 point Likert-scale. The data was analyzed using descriptive Cronbach¡¯s ¥á, t-test, ANOVA, scheffe test and Pearson correlation at SPSS Win 16.0 program.
Result: The total average score of collaboration of nurse-doctor was 75.10 and the average score of nurses¡¯ interpersonal communication competence was 3.44. Sub- concepts of competence were followed by result. The ¡®concentration¡¯ was the highest and followed by ¡®responsiveness¡¯, ¡®social appropriateness¡¯, ¡®empathy¡¯, ¡®immediacy¡¯, ¡®self-disclosure¡¯. In addition, ¡®Conversational coherence¡¯ was the lowest and then ¡®expressiveness¡¯ and ¡®social relaxation¡¯.
Conclusion: It is suggested that the education program of interpersonal communication training need to improve supportiveness.
